SUNY Cobleskill Professor John Foster, Ph.D., chair of the Department of Fisheries and Wildlife, is a recipient of the 2012 Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Teaching. A member of the SUNY Cobleskill faculty since 1988, Foster is recognized as the founding father of the aquaculture program. He has served as Fisheries and Wildlife chair since 2003 while teaching courses in Invertebrate Zoology, Fish Biology, Production Aquaculture/Merriculture, Pond Management, Marine Ecology, Fish Hatchery Management, and Fisheries Research. - 5/14/2012
SUNY Cobleskill Professor Joseph Sprague, Ph.D., is among 21 SUNY faculty members appointed to distinguished ranks, the highest system honors conferred upon SUNY instructional faculty. Sprague is only the fourth faculty member in SUNY Cobleskill history to earn the SUNY Distinguished Teaching Professorship, which honors mastery of teaching. For the prestigious tribute to be conferred, candidates must have demonstrated consistently superior mastery of teaching, outstanding service to students, and commitment to their ongoing growth, scholarship and professional growth, and adherence to rigorous academic standards and requirements. Further, a faculty member must have attained and held the rank of full professor for five years, have completed at least three years of full-time teaching on the nominating campus, 10 years of full-time teaching within the SUNY system, and must have regularly carried a full-time teaching load as defined by the campus at the undergraduate, graduate, or professional level. - 4/26/2012
Dr. Carol Eaton, president of Daytona State College, will deliver the keynote address at SUNY Cobleskill's 94th Commencement on Saturday, May 12, at 11 a.m. More than 600 students are eligible to participate in the ceremony, with nearly 300 receiving bachelor's degrees. Eaton assumed her current position in August 2011. She is Daytona State's sixth president and the first female to hold the post in the college's 50-plus year history. Prior to joining Daytona State, Eaton was president of Frederick Community College in Maryland, where she implemented multiple cycles of strategic planning and managed significant budget cuts during a four-year period that saw enrollment increase by 30 percent. - 4/24/2012
- SUNY Cobleskill's Cultural Arts Series hosts the Virginia-based musical couple Robin and Linda Williams on Friday, May 4, at 7:30 p.m., in Bouck Theater. The duo is known for their rich harmonies and original songwriting embedded in the country, bluegrass, folk and gospel tradition. - 4/19/2012
Golding Middle School students will travel to SUNY Cobleskill on Monday, April 30, for the Beard Wellness Center's annual Wellness Walk. This year, students and staff will be using improved pedestrian walkways constructed as part of the Creating Healthy Places initiative. Creating Healthy Places is working with the village of Cobleskill to promote a more walkable community. The students will walk from the middle school to the College at 1 p.m., returning at approximately 2:30 p.m. - 4/10/2012

SUNY Cobleskill and Creating Healthy Places host a Schoharie County Farm Fresh Lunches Training on Friday, March 23. The training focuses on preparing fresh fruits and vegetables in a manner appealing to K-12 school-age students. Approximately 60 participants are registered to attend from the Berne-Knox-Westerlo, Duanesburg, Gilboa, Middleburgh, Schoharie and Schalmont school districts, as well as the Morning Star Learning Center in Schoharie. - 3/14/2012

SUNY Cobleskill students are participating in a horse rescue in partnership with Little Brook Farm of Old Chatham, N.Y. UNY Cobleskill, in partnership with Schenevus and Cobleskill-Richmondville High Schools, hosts a delegation of Central American youth from Jan. 17-24. The Central American Youth Ambassadors (CAYA) Program highlights topics such as civic engagement, community activism, entrepreneurship and leadership development. The ambassadors spend three weeks in the United States as part of the program - one week in Washington, D.C., one week at SUNY Cobleskill and one week at Northern Michigan University. - 1/05/2012

SUNY Cobleskill Professor of Plant Science and Turfgrasss Management Dr. Zhongchun Jiang, along with two researchers at Rutgers University, authored the paper Enzymatic Metabolism of Nitrogen in Leaves and Roots of Creeping Bentgrass Under Nitrogen Deficiency Conditions. It was published in the September 2011 issue of the Journal of American Society for Horticultural Science, a peer-reviewed bimonthly publication of results of original research on horticultural plants, including turfgrass. - 10/03/2011

Cornell Cooperative Extension Schoharie County and Schoharie County Planning & Development will host an Agricultural Disaster Information Meeting on Thursday, Sept. 15, from 3 - 5 p.m. at the Best Western (121 Burgin Drive in Cobleskill). This meeting is targeted to farmers who have experienced flood related losses to their farm businesses or homes. On hand will be representatives from multiple agencies and agricultural service providers who will present an overview of assistance programs, resources, and will be available to answer questions. - 9/13/2011

SUNY Cobleskill continues its efforts to assist those affected by the aftermath of Hurricane Irene, which devastated large parts of the Schoharie Valley. Many residents, farmers, business owners and members of the campus community have been forced to abandon their property, while others remain in hopes that their homes and business can be restored or rebuilt. - 8/27/2011
Due to Hurricane Irene, all SUNY Cobleskill classes scheduled for Monday, Aug. 29 have been cancelled. The 2011 fall semester will begin on Tuesday, Aug. 30, with a regular Tuesday schedule. A convenient way to access fresh produce, customers shopping at www.schohariefresh.com will support Schoharie County's farmers and the local economy.
