Center for Academic Support
and Excellence (CASE)

The Center for Academic Support and Excellence (CASE) provides peer and professional tutoring services at SUNY Cobleskill. The Center is conveniently located in the lower level of the Jared Van Wagenen Library. It is the central tutorial and study location for the campus. The Center is open to all students and is totally free of charge. There is no limit to the number of hours a student may use the Center. The Center is opened at 8 a.m. for quiet study. Tutors are available throughout the day and into the evening, as well as Sundays.

Tutors are primarily students who have excelled academically and have been recommended by their professors on campus. The tutors design their schedules to meet their own academic and personal needs; consequently, tutors work in the Center at specific times and on specific days. Tutoring is most often done in a small group format. Schedules are posted in the Center and on the student Sharepoint site.

The Center also houses the Writing & Study Skills Center for the campus. Trained tutors assist students in a one-to-one setting with a variety of writing support. Appointments are encouraged.   Help is offered at all stages of the writing process. The Writing & Study Skills Center is managed by Tammy Rehberg who can be reached at 518-255-5893.

The AccessAbility Resource Office is located at CASE. Coordinated by Betsy Briggs, this program offers services to students with learning and physical disabilities. Students are encouraged to contact Ms. Briggs to discuss documentation requirements and the services that are available at SUNY Cobleskill. She can be reached at 518-255-5282.

The Center for Academic Support and Excellence staff offers programs and workshops on learning strategies such as note-taking, test-taking, textbook reading, and time management. The Center also coordinates the MERITS and Retention Programs for those students needing structured support to ensure their academic success.
